We’re Off Like a Herd of Turtles!

Which means all is normal around here!  Karla, Mike, Steve & I are going up the hill to see the giant Sequoias and some of our favorite "secret" spots at the national park.  We'll post pics tonight so stay tuned!

We had a great time last night when they came in, they've never watched American Idol, so we introduced them to the show for the finale.  It was a really weak show we thought, fast forwarded through a bunch of it, but we loved that Jordin Sparks won!  I'll write later tonight…

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!

Some of the things I got from my Mother are:

  1. My love of God.
  2. My love for learning.
  3. My love for all things gardening, even through she MADE me weed hers as a kid!
  4. My love of arts and crafts.  She kept me out of her hair and happy at the same time by getting me into every craft event at our local recreations center that was available.
  5. My love for reading.  She was a school teacher in training and my sister and I were her practice pupils!
  6. My love for hummingbirds, butterflies and dragonflies.  We would ooooh and aaaaaah together at our big picture window overlooking the garden.
  7. And too many more things to count!

Have a great Mother's Day!

Two More Friday Freebies

link to Friday Free Bee(UPDATE: the link has expired.  Please check back for other specials about once or twice a month). This week, DAISIE COMPANY again has two Friday Freebies (one of them because of my boo-boo!)  In a kit released in March, I had a typo on a text piece that was just now caught!  Isn’t it funny how we see what we expect to see when we’re reading?  I’ve written I think 13 books now with four different publishers and even with top-notch editors, proof readers and my own "Eagle-Eye-Roberts" AKA my DH Steve, one out of 2 books STILL end up with a typo or boo-boo in them somewhere!

So, even if you didn’t buy the original kit, you can download one of it’s design pieces that can be used to create a greeting card, gift tag, magnet or?  DAISIE COMPANY angel policy applies.

Lucy Hampton provides the normal Friday Freebie at DAISIE with her absolutely gorgeous "Everything Pink" mini kit.

Just click on either picture and it will take you to the DAISIE STORE so that you can download them.  You will have to go through check out but will not be charged anything.  If you love working with awesome art and graphics, sign up for their newsletter and you’ll get additional freebies from time to time and be alerted to who’s amazing new art is available in digital art kits now.  There are new kits every Tuesday and Friday and new artists being added virtually weekly!  Come take a peek.

Coming This Week at DAISIE Company…

I have finished the take out box kit with instructions for the beaded handle and trim

Tuesday's kit

Included with this kit will be a mini-gift bag and a couple of gift cards/tags.

Then coming on Friday will be a pair of Scrapbook pages that I created for my daughter's scrapbook and many of you requested to be made available.

These are png files that you simply drop your photograph behind and add your journaling text and you're done.  They are facing pages.

The wonderful thing about digital scrapbooking is that when you've created a page, you can print it out for Mom, Grandma and anyone else that would enjoy receiving it as a gift!

Friday's kit

These pages would be perfect for a lot of occasions including weddings and anniversaries, graduation, prom or just a special event.

They feature touches of the blue hyrdageas with soft cream and cocoa swirls and topped off with stitched highlights and antiqued jewels.

By the way, please be praying for the family of the Blue Angels Pilot, Kevin Davis, who was killed in yesterday's crash.  I found out this morning that he was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (the school that Jacqui attends).  This news will have quite an impact on their close-knit family/campus.

Have a Great Day!

Electric Quilt 6 Makes Designing the Perfect Quilt a Breeze!

For those of you who are serious quilters and fabric crafters, I have just purchased a product that has the possibility of totally revolutionizing the way you work.  Electric Quilt 6 comes programmed with over 5,000 scanned fabrics in its library (staple, long-term fabrics from major companies),  with over 4,000 block patterns to play around with and the ability to scan your own fabrics into the library to use as well.  There are 62 videos built in to the program that are clear, concise and simple to follow.  With a couple of hours investment of time to learn the basics of the program you can be off an running like I was.

Have you ever looked at a pile of fabric that you picked out in the quilt shop but got home and weren't sure exactly what you were planning on doing with it?  Or worse, gotten half way through cutting out a project and had to stop for a while and then tried to remember what you were planning when you got back to it?!  If you design your quilt on EQ6 it will give you the patterns to cut, the placement of every fabric color and the precise block placement to assure that the quilt you were envisioning is the quilt that you produce.

Once you pick the quilt style that you would like to create, you can change anything you want about it instantly and with perfect accuracy.  Add a border, make it narrower, change out the border and try any combination of fabrics until you get it just right.  You can do all of this without wasting a single square inch of your precious fabric in unnecessary mistakes!  Even better is that you can create as many versions of the quilt layout as you like and decide which one is the most beautiful, giving yourself the confidence to make that first cut.

As most of you know, I have been working intensively on the new line of quilting fabrics that I am designing for Loralie Designs' (http://www.loraliedesigns.com/) fabric company.  It's a huge undertaking and part of the process for me is to test the color, pattern and scale of each fabric to make sure that it will work well in the real world.  In years' past, prior to the fabric being actually produced there was no way to determine that they would really work except in printing paper samples and playing around with them a bit.  Now, with the EQ6 I have been able to create virtual quilts that are so real and lifelike that I'm dieing to see them made up in real life.

If you have earlier versions of Electric Quilt, I believe the most important difference between the programs is that EQ6 actually scales the fabric perfectly so that whether you look up close at a quilt block or you are laying out a king-sized quilt, the fabric adjusts to your perspective and it looks as it will in real life.  There are complete lists of what is availabe in each product and there is an upgrade package available.  You can purchase Electric Quilt 6 at http://www.electricquilt.com/ or look at their retail store list for a quilt shop near you.  It retails for $149.00.

I found a fabulous quilt shop in Clovis, CA called "Quilter's Paradise" and it is!  The store is huge and brimming with fabulous fabrics, samples, books, magazines and other quilting goodies.  They have knowledgeable and friendly support staff ready to help in any way they can.  Their web site is http://www.quilters-paradise.com/

I can't wait to show you my fabrics, but of course I can't do that just yet!  But as soon as I can I will.

The Fruit of my Labors

Audrey Jeanne’s CHA Designer’s Showcase TableWell… for better or for worse here's my rough layout for the CHA Designer's Showcase table.  We've worked late into the night the last week to get it pulled together, now we're down to the wire!!!  I still have my Press Kit (Oh joy!), brochure to hand out and Book proposal to complete before we roll out of here by about 8 PM tonight.  Yikes… what am I doing here then?!  I'll do almost anything to get out of doing publicity stuff 🙂

Shades of my Crafting Days!

I have glue gun burns on my fingers, sticky icky stuff is all over my desk and there are scraps of paper littering my clothes like a bad case of dandruff and yet I’m waxing nostalgic.  May it’s because it’s 1:22 AM and that was the hour I did most of my crafting when my girls were little so the memories are flooding back.  If I had to do this as many nights as I did when they were young I’m sure the nostalgia would wear off really quickly.

I’ve spent all day creating one of a kind mockups for the CHA show and I’m sure several of them will end up being crafting kits you’ll be able to purchase at D.A.I.S.I.E. Company in the not too distant future.  It’s hard work over insanely long hours, but it’s really more like playing as I don’t have any set plan or anyone else’s agenda to meet.  If I like it, it goes on my table, if I don’t well… you might get it for a Christmas present next year!

The list is still way too long for comfort as we must leave by 8 PM tomorrow (correction, oh my I mean today) but I’m going to bed.  I’ll tackle it fresh in the morning.  If my digital camera works and I can figure out how to upload an image, I’ll post some pictures tomorrow.  I really am dying to dress up this blog, but I guess if you don’t mind, it will have to wait.

Thanks for the encouraging words and those of you that pray, please do.   Without God’s help, I don’t have a chance of getting everything done that I need to tomorrow/today!!!  The most fun part about this trip isn’t the business end of it anyway, it’s the time my husband and I get to spend with friends old and new.

We get to meet Stacey and Andrea Wainscott for the first time though we feel like we’ve known each other forever.  We get to spend a lot of time with my dearest friend and artist/author, Karla Dornacher (www.karladornacher.com) and our daughter Ariane, her husband Michael and cousin Michael Brett will be meeting up with us for an impromptu visit.  Sounds like an awesome time even if I don’t get that last little creation done…

Nighty night.

My Brain is Whirling!

Last night Steve and I worked on our CHA display until after 1 AM.  Of course once I’m doing anything creative after 10 PM it’s nearly impossible to get this crazy brain of mine to stop thinking!!!  So one glass of wine, 2 benadryl (knocks me out) and at least an hour later I finally fell into a dead, dreamless sleep.

We made a lot of progress yesterday, we laid out the backboard design and then built it. We were trying desperately to figure out how to create shelves for displaying the crafts when we remembered we had some glass block store fixtures left over from an old retail venture.  So at 9 PM Steve grabs his flash light and goes out into one of our 2 storage containers where it took almost 2 hours to find them.  He’s truly my hero.  It made all the difference in the world.

So this morning, with semi-fresh eyes I go back to work… only today and tomorrow left to do about 3 weeks worth of work.  Hopefully I’ll get some pictures up soon so you can see the display in progress and then the final pictures at the CHA show.  Back to work I go… now where did I put my coffee?

Wow! what a learning curve!

There’s soooo much to learn, but I’m finally past the “I’m going to blog one day” and I’m actually set up and ready to go.  As my daughter would say, “Scary Biscuits!”

I plan to share tidbits of my daily life (not all that exciting but can often be hilarious) and bits of new art being created, products being designed, perhaps some craft ideas and lots of links to my dearest artist friends.

Often times, my husband Steve and I will be walking together and have a discussion that I’ve thought, “Now that would make a great blog post…”  So sometimes that’s exactly what I’ll do…

Basically, I want to connect with you.  I want to know what you’re thinking, feeling and what kind of styles are attracting your eye.  It’s no fun designing in a vacuum and hoping it’s what will bring joy to people’s lives.  It’s much more fun the way it used to be for me, hanging out with the girls and showing them my latest — sometimes to raves, sometimes to “I think it would be better if…,” always to support and encouragement!

Thanks for tuning in and pass the link along to your friends.  For those that do, let me know and there will be a free gift available for download as a thanks.
