I Have Some “Computer Issues”

My computer downloaded the newest microsoft update and then decided it didn’t want to access the internet at all… period… no how, no way….  My favorite geek friend and his wife came over and spent 3 hours working on it every way possible and determined that it’s time for a reformat and new install of windows.  Bummer…

So, I’m having struggles to get kits up.  I have to set up my daughter’s laptop to link to everything so that I can ftp the kits to my site and www.aimeeasher.com so please bear with me during this totally annoying period of time.  Computers, love ’em, hate ’em!!!!

(UPDATE:  I was able to download service pack 3 to another computer, bring it over to this one and it corrected the issues so I’m now back up and running.  PRAISE GOD and thanks to my bestest geek buddy Bill and his lovely wife Beth for sharing him, LOL!)

Featured Crafter: Rebeca Shimansky from Spain

The Schimansky family from SpainDigital crafting is a rapidly growing hobby and/or profession for many women.  One of the women I’ve been so blessed to get to know over the last year is Rebeca.  She’s the wife of a Pastor in Spain and searched the internet to find art that she could use to create Christian Products to sell and help support their family and ministry.

craft products created from audrey jeanne roberts\' digital clip artI was very taken with their story and asked her if I could interview her and share her story with the rest of my readers.  I asked her a series of questions and she wrote back such a wonderful response that I don’t want to cut it short.  I think what I’ll do is post part of it here on line and upload it in it’s entirety as a pdf document for those who would like to read the entire story and see their family pictures.

My Mother has always been very encouraging, and it is wonderful to be able to create something beautiful that has a special message from the Bible.  Last year we were struggling financially, so we started thinking and praying about the possibility of really pushing Inspiraflor (Inspire-flower would be the translation, although it sounds better in Spanish.. =)
harvest, Autumn, fall, paper pack, digital clip art, audrey jeanne robertSo I started looking on the web and found digital scrapbooking, and thought that this truly would be a great tool to be able to create things for everyone, not just beautiful flowery creations. But I really wanted to be careful about the copyright laws, so I prayed that the Lord would guide me to the right site. Well after MUCH looking I found the DAISIE Company and their wonderful Angel Policy under which I knew I could operate, so I started making cards, calendars, bookmarkers, stickers, pictures, and several other items. I am truly amazed at how the Lord has led me and helped me.  LINK TO COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE”

AUDREY’S RESPONSE:  Producing art that young (or not so young) mothers can use to create products to help their families has been a dream fulfilled for me.  I was able to be home with my children because of crafting and wouldn’t have the career I have today were it not for the wonderful craft shows I was able to sell my wares at.  If you are a crafter or professional crafter I’d love to hear your stories and just might feature some more of them if the response is strong enough.

On the business end, I have two new kits up in the store today.  AUTUMN GLORY 1 DIGITAL CLIP ART KIT Link here and AUTUMN GLORY 1 PAPER PACK Link here are now available.   You can see the previews above.  I’ll be uploading my fonts next, so stay tuned!

As I was creating the pieces I was really enjoying the way the colors were working together and the fun, young feel that they were producing.  Then I realized that they needed two more things to be complete, a whimsical butterfly and dragonfly to play in the garden!  So off to the art desk I went and here is the result.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY:  Ps 34:11-18  I will teach you the fear of the LORD.  Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.  Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.   The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.  The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  NIV

PRAYER:  Lord, as I see the innocent being slaughtered and cry out to be saved, my heart cries out to you to deliver them from evil.  Where man is powerless, let your power be shown.  Give wisdom to the international community to know how to stop the aggression, not just temporarily but in a way that will lead to a lasting peace.  Let those that are evil in your eyes be cut off and their plans come to ruin.

Take what the enemy would have desired to produce evil and make out of it a great good.  Only you can do this Lord, we trust in you.  AMEN

New! Photo Frame-ups Digital Photo Mat Freebie

All you need to do is add your pictures underneath the png format file and size to fit.  Then save the file as a jpeg format (or other file type required by your photo developing service) and send to your favorite lab.  I checked this morning and saw that Wal-mart sells this size print for as low as 33 cents per print.

This would make a beautiful baby announcement.  Just add a baby picture or two and the baby’s information in the text box and print.  You can also create your own greeting card by using this as a card front rather than a photo frame-up.

In case you were wondering which art kit this is from, this is a new kit that I am working on called “Wildflower Sonata.” It’s available now in my store at the above links.  It’s a bright, sunny, fun, younger feeling kit that will be perfect for a lot of uses including card making, scrapbooking and crafting.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY:  Ps 56:3-4  when I am afraid, I will trust in you.   In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.  What can mortal man do to me?  NIV

COMMENTS:  Isn’t it amazing how quickly our world can change and the prospects for peace or war?  When things in the world seem suddenly out of control, it is easy to become afraid.  I love this verse because the psalmist doesn’t say “When I am afraid you lecture me.”  Nor does he say, “God only rescues me when I am not afraid.”   It also lets me know that faith isn’t an absence of fear, but it is turning to God when I am afraid.

In an every-changing world it is important to remember that nothing comes as a surprise to the Lord.  When we rest in Him, He will be with us and see us through.

PRAYER:  Lord, this week the world suddenly changed and it was easy for fear and uncertainty to threaten to overwhelm me.  I admit that at times like this, I am afraid of the future and what it will hold.  Help me to overcome my fear by running into your arms.  When I am afraid, show me ways to actively trust you.  Teach me to praise you and remind myself of everything that your word says about you!  Thank you Lord for your protection.  I rest in your power and your love.  AMEN

The kit contains 32 pcs. and many of them are pieced “quilts” in square, border or frame format.  There are two finished card fronts and a wide variety of borders.

Deep reds and greens with parchment tan makes up the color palette.  I hope that you will enjoy the classic, natural feel of this artwork and the quilts that were created from it!

Again, my store isn’t behaving right and it isn’t showing the extra previews, so I have shown all of them here.  That way you can see every piece that is included in this kit.

By the way, if you click on any picture an enlarged version will pop up.

Unfortunately, my store has suddenly stopped showing the extra product shots of the kits.  It is my habit to show 100% of the pieces included in an art kit in the previews.  I like to see what I’m buying anytime I buy something, so I make sure that you can too.  So I’ll show all of the previews here and my helper will probably be able to help me figure it out when she gets back from her weekend away.

This set is called “Nature’s Christmas” and has an elegant, woodsy feel to it.  I love to alternate between glitzy glamourous Christmas decor and then a more natural feeling Christmas.  My favorite place to celebrate Christmas is up in the mountains at Hume Lake Christian Conference center, especially when they get an early snow.  This set captures those wonderful memories for me and I hope will help you create some very special memories this coming holiday season!

I want to remind you that there are only 133 days left until Christmas.  If you are like me and want to do so much but never quite get it done.  Think of one project you can work on this month and get it done.  You’ll feel so good about it that it will give you the momentum to keep going — honest!!!  The years that I’ve done that have been such fun and special holidays.  It’s so much fun to have “guiltless” holidays.  If we stick together we can do it!!!

How’s Your Crafting Going?

I’m getting ready to get my Christmas and seasonal art up on this site in the next week or so, which got me to thinking about what it was like for me when I was a crafter and worked like a mad woman half the year so I could be home with my children the other half of the year!

If you craft for Christmas either for yourself or for a small crafting business, you only have 166 days to go until Christmas and only 50 until Labor Day which is sort of the kick off of the Craft Show season!!!  Are you starting yet?  Is it hard to get motivated?  Are you really terrible at working until under the gun of an actual deadline?  Does that thought make your blood pressure rise?!

I really struggled with this when I did the Craft show circuit.  For years I exhibited with the Harvest Festival Shows in California.  These are BIG shows that cost a lot of money to exhibit in, so it was very important to have enough stock to make the expenditure worth while.  Also the shows were so exhausting that it was important that we not be pulling all-nighters once we got started.

However, being your typical artist and crafter I was really, really bad at not getting started until it was a crunch and the show season was looming.  But towards the end of my time doing the shows I began to work in a different manner.  It was so much more effective, restful and profitable that I could have just kicked myself that I didn’t discipline myself to do it earlier.

I took the time to go through my spread sheets of what had been sold the year before (if you know how to create a spread sheet this is very easy to do)  If you don’t know how, just use some graph paper and put your basic craft products on it going one direction and the shows you do or did going across the other.  Write the numbers in, total them up and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what you’re going to need.

For my product line, a framed calligraphy sentiment line, it was especially easy as every piece required a mat, most also required a frame and the prints were interchangeable so if one didn’t sell, the frame and mat was easily changed out to another.  I didn’t order my frames, glass or backing boards until the last minute so that building inventory didn’t cost me much until the very end of the process.

For those of you that do food wrapping, for example, you could create your kits for very little and buy the food you assemble them with at the last minute or even week by week during your show season to manage your expenditures more effectively.

By calculating the total # of pieces that I sold during the show season it gave me a target number to create each month leading up to the show.  A goal of 500 mats to do each month sounds like (and is) much easier to do than a binge session of 3,000 mats to cut in the month prior to the show!

I found that the excitement of seeing my display bins filling up, stimulated my creativity in coming up with new products for the next season while there was still time to create them.  The WORST THING IN THE WORLD was thinking up a great new idea that would have sold gangbusters AFTER the show season got started because I never had enough time to do it and I kicked myself all season long!

If you have room to assemble your show display and leave it up, stocking your bins, shelves or other display areas as you go, it is a constant visual reminder that the season will be here before you know it!  You can create fresh new signs, and make your booth beautiful as you’re creating your new product.

If any of you are crafters and have some ideas to share with your fellow crafters, please post them as comments here so we all can learn!

I am very committed to the crafting community.  Crafting allowed me to be a  Stay-at-home-mom with my two daughters and now that they are grown, I’m so glad that I did stay with them.  It made a world of difference in their lives and my own.  My digital art Terms of Use allow a single crafter, with no employees and no mass production machinery to use the art to create their own gifts to sell.  You may make up to 200 crafts to sell in a year with a kit.  If you desire to make more, we will usually grant extensions to that license for a small fee.  A lot of artists won’t allow these terms — I do for one basic reason.  It really matters to me that moms have a way to stay home with their children or grandchildren if they want to and I love that my art is often used to help accomplish this purpose.

So what are you doing hanging around here?  Go get crafting!  If you want to be held “accountable” to your goals, just post a comment and we’ll all try to encourage you along towards accomplishing them!

I want to start buying the reblooming Iris so that I can enjoy them in the spring and late summer/early fall as well then they really will be perfect!  I’ll post this kit right now and edit this post when I get the Abigail Scott DESIGN Studio kit made with this set added in as well.

We are Moving to a New Store

Many of you have been customers at the DAISIE company web site.  I so enjoyed my time with all of you there, and quite frankly never planned to leave.  Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that our contract with Daisie has been severed and our products have been removed from their location.

In the near future, you will be able to find them again at www.aimeeasher.com.  It will take a considerable amount of time to reformat and upload over 180 kits, so if there are one or two you desperately need, feel free to contact me and we’ll work to put those at the head of the list.

I will also have some of my kits here at my store as well, but future plans here include offering different things than will be at Aimee Asher, so stay tuned!

Abigail Scott DESIGN Studios Product is Coming Soon

to my store.  I hope that you don’t mind that we didn’t tell you who we were at the outset.  Part of the reason was my girls wanted a chance to succeed or fail on their own merits without the benefits of their mother’s name.  I am so very proud of them both.

Earlier this year, my two youngest daughters and I began working together as a small freelance design studio.  The oldest of my children by birth, Jennifer, is quite gifted in graphic design and beading.  She uses those skills in designing marketing materials and newsletters as part of her “day job.”  Both of the girls have developed a rather keen eye for design and have always been behind the scenes giving their input in my product development work — especially as it relates to the younger market.  My youngest, Jacqui, came up with the studio name based on the middle names of the other two siblings that aren’t involved… from this beginning came Abigail Scott DESIGN Studios.

It has been fun to work together with them on projects totally different from my norm.  Most times we’ve talked over the concepts and picked art together and then I usually actually create the kits.  Both of them have the gift of art direction and love to boss their mom around :-)!  One of the most fun parts for me has been to work with artwork that is so totally different from my own that I could never have created it myself.  I’ve had the privilege of working with whimsical, contemporary and elegant art from the many quality artists at the Daisie Company. It has been a true joy.

The Abigail Scott DESIGN Studio kits that were designed with Audrey Jeanne’s Expressions art will be coming to this store soon, those that were designed with art besides my own will not be able to be brought here.  So stay tuned and see what our Design Studio will bring next!

FREE! For one week only…

Audrey Jeanne Roberts\' summery blue rose and hydrangea quick pages This set of two quick pages is our GRAND OPENING SPECIAL and will be free until next Saturday morning only (UPDATE: FREE LINK DISABLED now available as a kit in the store)  The art kit it was designed with will be available next week (fingers crossed!)

When I created this art, I was reminded of a special summer visit we had at a Victorian beach house in Stone Harbor, New Jersey with some very dear friends.  Each worn out, but still beautiful hand-me-down that filled their home had a story to tell.  Their family history was reflected in the worn quilts and faded throws that covered soft, squishy down-filled sofas.  Outside there were massive blue hydrangea bushes on the porch, paired with the summer blossoms spilling out of Victorian style window boxes.  All of that homey, comforting feel is what I have tried to capture in this upcoming kit.

These pages are great for wedding, baby girl, young girls and just basic feminine scrapbook pages.  I found this fun picture of my daughter Jacqui when she was at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  I thought it was cute that she went to a Halloween Party dressed as a fairy (since she was learning to fly!)

Do you think you don’t need quick pages because you don’t do scrapbooking?  You don’t have to use them for scrapbooks!  You could create a card front by reducing the page to 5 or 6 inches square.  Make an invitation by putting the important information in the openings.  Teach yourself to look closely and see “outside the box” to find what other uses you might be able to make of them.  When you look with fresh eyes and a fresh purpose, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you can do with things you might already have in your digital art collection!
