Cascade Complex Incident Command Post Burn By Video

If you thought still photos were a touch unnerving, try this video of a portion of the burn by incident!  My husband brought this home with him and I found it already uploaded on youtube so I am linking to a shortened version that is there.  I believe that this clip is 3 minutes or so long.  The event happened on August 14th from 3-8 PM

Cascade Complex Fire YouTube Video Link

I don’t know how to get the youtube image to display here, so I’ve simply included the link above.  For the record, Steve said he never felt unsafe and the firefighting team there was awesome.  There were three helicopters that were covering them that you don’t see in this short clipt, the batte went on for several hours.  He did also say that he "Was too ignorant to be scared!"

  1. Wow AJ. I can’t imagine just standing around like they are doing watching it. I would have been terrified. Oh the other hand it must have been impressive being that close and watching it. It’s amazing what power is in the fire.

FYI if you look in the box next to the video you will see the word embed. That link will put it on you blog.

  2. Hey Aj, This video I actually have posted on Myspace. It is an AWSOME video the first time I watched I watched the 6 or 7 min version and I could not keep my eyes off it. David sent me a map that was in camp during the burnover, Never thought I could like a map so much it is really neat with all the fire holes in it. The smokey smell on it was so strong.

  3. OMGosh, AJ, that is terrifying! I feel so blessed (and now a bit guilty) that my DH has a nice, safe job! Thanks for sharing this…gives us something to think about when we’re complaining that our hubbies are late coming home, or that his job isn’t enough to support the bills, etc.

    Hugs and Peace,

  4. Thank you for sharing that, AJ. It was amazing to watch. You do have to be a very special kind of person for that.

  5. AJ that was absolutely awesome and just amazing to watch. I don’t believe I have ever seen such a ferocious fire. Firefighters sure are a courageous bunch of folks.

  6. Oh, how horrid! My heart goes out to all those victims and also to those, like your DH, who are so courageous!

  7. That is so terrifying. I would have been panicing being so close to the fire. I’m glad to hear Steve is usually far away from the fire and smoke. I appreciate those so much that risk their lives for the rest of us.

  8. Wow. That really showed something you never think about when you see photos of fires: the noise from the wind.

  9. Thank you for sharing. It was amazing to see and hear the fire. The people who go out and fight these fires are very brave.
